"Grateful I found Stacy at Mad Dawg Guitar & Bass Repair. As soon as I contacted Stacy about a Ukulele bridge reattachment and an acoustic guitar setup and string replacement he responded immediately. The experience was amazing! When I dropped off the instruments he demonstrated his skills and knowledge that gave me the confidence and trust I needed to not have any worries. When I picked up the instruments I was blown away on the beautiful work that was done. I thought my J45 played well before…Oh man, I’m so excited to play it again and re-inspired with the improved setup work that was done! The Ukulele bridge attachment is flawless and simply amazing! Also, both instruments are polished and cleaned up like new. The work is above and beyond and I highly recommend Stacy!" Shane G.

"My child is just learning to play guitar. If he/she likes it and wants to get more serious, I'll call you for a setup."
I can't tell you how many times I've heard this, but I can tell you that it's the best way to guarantee your child will not continue playing guitar, bass, or whatever stringed instrument they're trying out. A poorly setup instrument that has high action makes it harder to play. How does it make it harder, you ask? High action (meaning the strings are far away from the neck/fingerboard) causes the player to have to push the strings down farther to make contact with the frets and make a clear note. While it seems minute, the fraction of a second longer that it takes to fret the note makes a big difference if your child is trying to play something that is fast. Since a string is under constant tension, pushing it down to make a note is similar to compressing a spring. After playing a few hundred or more notes in a song, this starts to cause fatigue in the hands, forearms, and elbows which can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis in the elbows. I can testify to this from personal experience because I've had all of the above. If your child is struggling to learn fast guitar riffs and is experiencing pain, you can pretty much guarantee that he/she will give up playing sooner rather than later. Spending a little money on a proper setup is a small investment to give your child every chance to succeed at playing guitar and enhance the chances that he/she sticks with it.
Do You Have High Action or String Buzz?
Most guitars aren't sold properly set up, and even the best guitars are finicky. Over time, they can develop issues - whether it's due to changes in humidity, wear and tear, or simply because they weren’t fine-tuned when you bought them. Your guitar might feel off, sound less than perfect, or not play the way it should. Even if your guitar is new, there's a good chance it was not set up properly from the manufacturer or the store you purchased it from. No matter which situation applies to you, it's a great idea to have your guitar professionally setup. That's where Mad Dawg Guitar & Bass Repair comes in.
Maximize Your Guitar's Potential and Play Your Best
I specialize in making your guitar or bass play like it should—smooth, precise, and perfectly tuned to your needs. Whether it’s a simple setup, repairing broken parts, or upgrading your gear, I’m here to keep your instrument in peak condition. You deserve a guitar that feels great in your hands every time you play, and I’m here to make that happen.
"It was super easy. I was able to get in touch asap and my guitar was setup within two days from when I dropped it off. Smooth and simple! And a plus it was cheaper than the competitors! 5 Star Recommended for sure! " Dillon S.
Menu of Services

Electric Guitar Setup (Non-Floyd Rose)
My 13-point setup process guarantees low action and fast guitar play. It includes an initial assessment, fret polishing, fretboard maintenance, electronics inspection and cleaning, restringing, measuring and setting neck relief, measuring and setting action (string height), adjusting tremolo springs, setting intonation, setting pickup heights, and final cleaning and play by feel.

Electric Bass Setup
My 13-point bass setup follows the same process as our 13-point guitar setup. Ole Mad Dawg is a bass player himself, so your bass is sure to get the same love and attention you would give it, and much more. I will inspect your bass for any additional issues and inform you of anything that might need attention. I guarantee your bass will feel, play, and sound better than ever before.

Acoustic Guitar Setup
My acoustic guitar setup follows the same process as my electric guitar setups with a few slight tweaks. Mad Dawg will transform your acoustic guitar into an instrument that's effortless to play with my expert setup. I will get your acoustic guitar playing as smooth and fast as possible. Because of the lack of electronics, acoustic guitar setups are priced slightly lower than electric setups. Please call, text, or email for accurate pricing.

Electronics Repair & Replacement
Bad or scratchy pots? Bad pickups? Worn or broken output jack? We can handle it all. Don't like your current pickups, pots, knobs, capacitor, or pre-amp, and want to change them out ? We can do that too. Call, text, or email for pricing.

Fret Dressing
I will level, crown and polish your frets to a mirror shine, as well as eliminate any sharp fret edges. This service also includes a full setup. It will eliminate buzzing and uneven frets, transforming your guitar into a high-performance, buzz-free instrument. This will take your playing experience to the next level! Call, text, or email for the most accurate pricing.

Nut Replacement (Tusq) & Repair
Buzzing frets when playing open strings? You may need a nut replacement. Intonation at the 1st fret is always sharp? You may need your nut slot(s) filed. Either way, we've got you covered. Mad Dawg uses Tusq nuts to replace your old one, as we find they have superior sound quality and durability. Replacements are $85 not including the price of the nut. Filing prices for high nut slots varies based on the number of slots that need adjustment and time taken to complete the repair, but should take an hour or less. Please call, text, or email for the most accurate pricing based on your situation.

Floyd Rose 13-Point Setup
Take your Floyd Rose-equipped guitar to the next level with Mad Dawg's specialized setup. It includes everything in our electric guitar setup with some special enhancements for your Floyd-Rose bridge. We will level the bridge, perfectly balancing the Floyd Rose for stable performance. We will dial in the tremolo springs to ensure smooth operation, tune to your desired tuning, get your intonation as perfect as possible, and give it a final dial-in. We will also inspect your guitar for additional issues and let you know if something needs attention. Our goal is to have your Floyd Rose performing flawlessly.

Tuner Repair/Replacement
Broken tuner(s)? Don't like the tuners you have? Mad Dawg can help you. I will swap out your current tuners with the tuners of your choice so you can get in tune quickly and stay in tune. I can also assist you in selecting and ordering direct replacement tuners to eliminate or reduce making any modifications to your guitar or bass. Price varies upon whether modifications need to be made to fit the replacement tuners. Call or text for price.

Bridge Repair or Replacement
Whether it's a guitar or bass, electric or acoustic, there's a seemingly endless number of bridge options out there. If you aren't happy with your current bridge and want to upgrade, I can help you. If you like your current bridge and it needs repair, I can help with that also. If you're wanting to upgrade, I can also assist you in choosing a new bridge that eliminates or at least minimizes making modifications to your guitar. Call or text me to discuss the option that's right for you.

Deep Cleaning
While all my setups include fret polishing and a general cleaning, sometimes a guitar will have dirt, corrosion, and buildup from years of playing. Other times, it can have a buildup of dust, dirt, grime, and/or corrosion from sitting in a closet unplayed for years. Depending upon whether the required cleaning is moderate (grime & fretboard buildup), deep (caked on dirt and corrosion), or extreme (restoration), I can help you at varying price points. When you come in for your setup, I will assess the overall cleanliness of your guitar, and if necessary, recommend the appropriate level of cleaning to get your guitar back into top shape.
13 Point Setup
1. Initial Inspection: I start by thoroughly examining your guitar to identify any specific issues and assess its overall condition.
2. Truss Rod Adjustment: By adjusting the truss rod, I ensure the neck has the ideal amount of relief (.010 mm at the 9th fret for electrics, .012 mm for basses). This creates a comfortable playing surface, minimizing string buzz.
3. Bridge Height Adjustment: I fine-tune the string height at the 12th fret for acoustics guitars and basses, and the 17th fret for electric guitars, optimizing playability and tone.
4. Potentiometer Maintenance: I rotate the volume and tone pots and listen for scratchiness. I use DeoxIT to eliminate any scratchiness. I also tighten any loose components. I also note recommendations for any necessary future adjustments.
5. Fret Cleaning and Polishing: I meticulously clean and polish the frets, enhancing their appearance and ensuring smooth playability for effortless bends.
6. Fretboard Conditioning: I clean the fretboard and apply oil (for Rosewood, Pau Ferro, and Ebony), preserving its longevity and enhancing the wood’s natural beauty. For maple fretboards, I clean them thoroughly with Dunlop 65 guitar polish and cleaner to remove any dirt and grime.
7. String Change and Tuning: I replace your strings, tune your guitar to perfection, and lubricate the nut to promote smooth string movement.
8. Tuning Machines Adjustment: I tighten any loose tuning machines and torque them if necessary, ensuring they hold your tuning accurately.
9. Body Screws Maintenance: I check for and tighten any loose screws on the body, preventing unwanted vibrations and ensuring stability.
10. Pickup Height Adjustment: I assess and adjust the pickup height, enhancing your guitar’s tone and dynamic response.
11. Intonation Setup: I set and adjust the intonation, guaranteeing that your guitar sounds in tune across the entire fretboard.
12. Final Cleaning: A thorough cleaning of the guitar ensures it looks as good as it plays.
13. Play Test and Final Wipe-down: Finally, I play your guitar to check for any buzzing, assess playability, and evaluate the overall feel, making any final adjustments to ensure your complete satisfaction. Finally, I wipe it down one last time to remove any dust and fingerprints from the testing process.
